What on Earth are We Here For?

In the past 10 years, one of the best selling books is Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life.  In this book he answers the question of what on earth are we here for.

One of the purposes for your life and mine is that we were planned for God’s pleasure.  God is crazy about you.  God did not need to create you and me, but God chose to do so.  God loves you totally and completely.  The best thing you and I can do is respond to that love with open arms.

The best way that we open our arms to God’s love is in worship.  When we worship God with an open heart, God smiles.  Certainly as followers of Jesus Christ everything we do can have an element of worship in it as we acknowledge God’s love which is always around us.

However, as Christ followers we need focused times when we are centered on worship with our Christian family.  That is what our worship services are for.

When we gather together for worship, God is the focal point.  Worship involves surrender to god’s will and way with our life.  A.W. Tozer said “The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven’t come to the end of themselves.  We’re still trying to give orders and interfering with God’s work within us.”  Surrender is best demonstrated in obedience and trust.

As we listen to God in worship we learn about the best way to live.  Prayer and meditation also help to guide us to god.  Music is a part of our worship experiences, because it is the language of the heart.  Giving offerings is an expression of our worship as well.  We give an offering of a portion of our income as a way of recognizing all that we have has been given to us by God so it’s really his anyhow.

Worship invites us to come honestly to God, to love God and be loved by God.  Worship invites us to grow in that love relationship with God.  The more you become God’s friend, the more you will care about the things he cares about.

The Bible says that we are to love God with all our Heart, Soul and Might.  We are invited to bring all we are to God.  Sometimes we will appeal to the three simultaneously and other elements we may appeal to only one.

As you can tell, worship is a big deal for the individual Christian and is one of the purposes for the Church.  That is why being led by God we will offer two new worship opportunities beginning All Saints Day, November 1.

Adonai is our 8:30 a.m. worship service which will be more formal, classical and reflective.  Celebrate! Our 10:50 a.m. worship service will be more high energy and casual while being a little more edgy with a clear effort as being multi-lingual.  I am not sure where God will lead us from here, but I am excited.  God will lead us from here, but I am excited.  Join us for on or both services, Sunday and bring a friend.
