The Initial enthusiasm is over. You began the fast with zeal but now that is all gone. Does it mean the fast just doesn't work for you? What about those who have broken their fast? The unconsciously fell in to whatever it was that they were trying to give up for God. They didnt mean to it just happened. Have they failed?

     None of us came in to the Awakening with false intentions. I know everyone meant what they said when they committed to "An effort to know God better through the 21 days of prayer and fasting."

     The enemy wants nothing more than to break your spirit. If you believe you have failed and give up you will end up not knowing God better. You will end up being more afraid of God.

     Remember FASTING WILL DISRUPT YOUR NORMAL ROUTINE! That's the point. We are acknowledging that there is nothing more important in our life than God. Food is not, any earthly pleasure is not, and your personal commitment is not.

     The point is that we are coming to align ourselves with God. We come saying Lord, I am giving myself to you. You are more important than...(fill in here whatever you are giving up for God).

     Remember the reasons for fasting we talked about. We fast to connect our story with God's story. We fast to find directiion in our life. We fast to do spiritual battle. We fast to minister to and through others. We fast to cleanse our bodies.

     These are just some of the reasons for fasting. Probably you were drawn to this fast for one of two of these reasons specifically. That is part of what you are bringing to God in this fast.

     Through fasting you are bringing yourself to God. That pleases God immensely. As you draw near to God you will find (maybe you will not realize it immediately) God has drawn near to you.

     We are fasting together. 54 other people are joining with you in the fast. There are even some new folks that have joined us since Sunday..

     Let me close with some prayer requests. One of those fasting with us is seeking to overcome an addiction to pornography. Uphold this person as they do spiritual battle. The pictures from Haiti are unbelievable. There are horrific images in each of our minds. The Remiliens from our church are from Haiti. They have only been able to contact one family member there and then only for a few seconds. Our world is hurting. Our tears are not lost on God.
